FINSAC group gives GG ultimatum

The Association of Finsac’d Entrepreneurs has given the Governor General and the Government until the end of December to respond to its concerns about the non-completion of the report from the FINSAC Commission of Enquiry.

President of the association Yola Gray-Baker says if that does not happen, the group will be seeking further advice from its attorneys as to the next move to take.

The association sought Sir Patrick Allen’s intervention in September following failed attempts to get feedback on the status of the report from the commissioners who presided over the enquiry.

Mrs. Gray-Baker is hoping the Government will change its position and provide funding for the commissioners to complete their tasks.

She is also hoping that the Governor General will use what she says is his unbiased position to influence the Government in the matter.

She maintains that there needs to be closure to the FINSAC debacle which she says has done irreparable damage to debtors and continues to impact their lives.

Mrs Gray-Baker says it has also contributed to Jamaica’s economic woes and could be a contributing factor to the Government’s ability to secure an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

The FINSAC enquiry, which began in November 2009 to probe into the circumstances leading to the financial sector meltdown of the 1990s, ended in November last year.

However, the commissioners were prevented from completing a final report after the People’s National Party administration said in June that it would not provide any more money for them to complete their tasks.
