Crown witness faces cross examination at Boulevard trial

Cross examination of a witness in the trial of three policemen charged with the murder of 20-year-old Kemar Walters and 44-year Oliver Duncan, is set to continue in the Home Circuit Court today.

Yesterday, the former cop, who is the prosecution’s main witness, denied suggestions that he was beaten to give a statement in the case.

The witness admitted he received a wound to his head while in custody in May 2009.

He explained that he was playing football outside the cell block when he hit his head on a metal cross beam.

When cross-examined by defence lawyer Valerie Neita Robertson, the former cop denied the suggestion that his testimony was as a result of bargaining his way out of problems he had when he was taken into custody.

The former cop was asked under cross-examination if while he was at the Organised Crime Investigation Division he was investigated for 63 pairs of shoes that were seized.

But the witness denied this suggestion.

The witness said he was never held with an AK-47 rifle and was never suspected of gunrunning.

Assistant Superintendent Victor Barrett and Constables Paul Edwards and Louie Lynch are on trial for the 2004 double murder.
