PJ suggests CCJ talks

2012-11-14 09:18:35 | (0 Comments)

Former Prime Minister PJ Patterson is suggesting the government and opposition embark on a joint initiative to garner the opinions of Jamaicans on the adoption of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as the country’s final court.

The Opposition is insisting that a referendum be held on the matter, but the government has said it’s not necessary.

Yesterday in parliament, Patterson also said he did not believe a referendum was needed.

But he said it would be useful for the leaders of both sides of the House to hold public meetings to speak with Jamaicans about the replacement of the London-based Privy Council with the CCJ.
