Spirit License Act to be amended

2012-11-14 18:30:40 | (0 Comments)

Monique Grange, Assistant News Editor

Justice Minister Senator Mark Golding says legislation is to be drafted to amend the Spirit License Act to allow the government to set the opening and closing hours for bars.

The present opening hours are from 7 a.m.- p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 3 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sundays.

Bars at hotels are allowed to be opened from 7 a.m. to midnight every day.

The Justice Minister explains that the proposal is to amend the act to allow bars to be opened similar opening hours as those at hotels.

The Justice Minister says the change was proposed by the Jamaica Constabulary Force following consultations with bar owners and patrons who have often complained about the present opening hours.
