AUDIO: St Catherine man dies during eviction

2012-11-16 13:43:38 | with audio | (0 Comments)

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

An elderly man this morning died during an eviction in Dam Head St Catherine.

Bailiffs visited a section of the community where several families have built houses on a plot of land belonging to someone else.

The residents say Edward Vaughn collapsed and died while his house was being emptied by the bailiffs under the police’s supervision.

One resident, Elaine Gentles told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that her family moved to the area more than 35 years ago.

Another resident, Louise Lewis, says the families occupying the land have already started the process to get titles.

Despite the residents’ claims the bailiffs are continuing the eviction saying they are acting on an order from the Supreme Court on behalf of the legal owner of the land.
