SportsCRICKET: Powell inspires West Indies lead2012-11-16 14:31:40 | (0 Comments)
Opener Kieran Powell became the ninth West Indian to score two centuries in the same test match but a late collapse handed Bangladesh hopes of an unlikely win in Mirpur.
The 22-year-old right-handed batsman scored 110 for his second century of the match to anchor his team to 244 for 6 at the close of day four, a lead of 215 runs. Powell batted with authority and put on 189 runs for the second wicket with Darren Bravo who made 76. Chris Gayle and his Jamaican teammate Marlon Samuels also failed again. Gayle scored 19 before falling to paceman Rubel Hossain, while Samuels scored only one run. Captain Darren Sammy is undefeated on 15. Debutant Sohag Gazi, Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan finished with two wickets apiece. In the morning Bangladesh were dismissed for 556 runs in their first innings, taking a slender 29-run lead over the West Indies first knock of 527 for 4 declared. Bangladesh had resumed the day on 455 for six. Off-spinner Sunil Narine and and paceman Ravi Rampaul ended with three wickets each. Nasir Hossain missed his maiden hundred by just four runs. Gayle caught him off the bowling of Tino Best for 96. Scores in the match so far: West Indies: 527-5 declared & 244-6 Bangladesh: 556.
