With the Christmas holidays approaching, the Police are appealing to jewellery store operators, authorised dealers and members of the public to take extra caution when purchasing items made from precious metals.

The warning follows an incident at the Kirkvine Bauxite Plant in Manchester on Thursday night.

It’s reported that about 11 o’clock armed men entered the plant and made off with more than 30 pieces of crucible valued at more than $8 million along with personnel effects stolen from employees.

Crucibles are made from platinum and gold.

The police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Mandeville Police at 961-5538, Crime Stop at 311 or 811, Police emergency 119 or the nearest police station.
