UK VOICE: 9-year-old charged in toddler's beating death

A 9-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder after they allegedly beat a toddler to death in a St. Louis suburb.

The unidentified child, who is now in the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services, is accused of killing the 14-month-old boy in Cahokia on August 22.

The boy’s defense attorney Bill Walker reportedly said the accused mother is deceased and that the other adults in his life were ‘detained after being charged with child endangerment’.

According to The Belleville News Democrat prosecutors alleged those three adults left the victim unsupervised with four other children.

The boy is set to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
