CMC – A Jamaican woman faces the possibility of two years in jail if she fails to pay EC$36,000 by the end of the week.

Samantha Carissa Selinske, 28, was found guilty of smuggling marijuana into the country.

Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh told the accused that she would also be deported after serving her sentence.

The Jamaican woman, who cried openly in court on Monday, pleaded guilty to possession of three pounds of cannabis, importation, and possession with intent to transfer.

The drugs had an estimated street value of EC$12,000.

Selinske arrived in Antigua last Friday on board a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica and following a search of her luggage several chicken boxes containing 26 packets of the cannabis were found.

She told the court that the packages had been given to her by man “while sitting at the airport”.

Selinske was taken to the police station where her underwear was searched and a ball of cannabis found.
