The Office of the Public Defender has been given notice to vacate its offices on Harbour Street in downtown Kingston.

However, Public Defender Earl Witter was mum yesterday on the new home of the commission of Parliament.

Witter explained to our news centre that the Office of the Public Defender is subletting from a tenant of the Commissioner of Lands.

The Jamaican Bar Association, which is the original tenant, has served the Public Defender with notice to quit.

The notice expired at the end of October.

Witter said the space is needed by the association to facilitate an increase in the number of lawyers and duties carried out by the General Legal Council and the Jamaican Bar Association.

He said his office was allowed additional time to relocate and is now packing.

The public defender said an announcement would be made shortly about the new location of his office.
