Time to be decisive says analysts

Political analysts say Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Leader Andrew Holness will have to be decisive in dealing with the current conflict arising out of the nomination of three of the party’s deputy leaders if the JLP is to recover.

JLP member Everald Warmington is insisting that Christopher Tufton, Audley Shaw and Desmond McKenzie were not properly nominated and elected.

He had even initiated action in the Supreme Court, but later discontinued it.

The controversy surrounding the nomination was reportedly discussed at the JLP’s standing committee meeting last night.

There was no word from the party late last night on the outcome of that meeting.

However, Political analyst, Kevin Obrien Chang said Andrew Holness must act decisively.

Chang noted that Warmington’s utterances in a television interview last evening only serve to damage the party further.

Yesterday, Warmington made disparaging remarks about JLP colleagues Arthur Williams, Audley Shaw and Daryl Vaz, while insisting he took the action he did out of principle.

Another political commentator, Richard ‘Dickie’ Crawford said the comments could isolate Warmington within the party.

However, he said Holness must not be quick to dismiss the concerns raised by Warmington, especially if he is right about the validity of the nominations.

Warmington continues to insist that the confirmation of the three men as deputy leaders is invalid because the nomination was invalid.
