UK VOICE: Voice of Elmo resigns from Sesame Street

2012-11-20 12:18:06 | (0 Comments)

Puppeteer and voice actor Kevin Clash has resigned from his role as the voice of Elmo on children’s programme Sesame Street, claims TMZ.

American puppeteer Kevin Clash, 52, quits the show amidst allegations that he had sexual relationships with two underage boys.

Clash admitted to having a relationship with the first accuser - Sheldon Stephens - but only when the accuser was an adult, according to TMZ.

Clash, who has been apart of the children’s program since the 80s, took leave from Sesame Street - which has been running since 1969 – following this accusation.

However, second accuser Cecil Singleton also alleges that Clash had a sexual relationship with him when the former was 15 and Clash was 32 in 1993.

Speaking about Clash leaving the show, a statement from Sesame Workshop said: "Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street."
