Investigation launched into the death of female ward

The Denham Town police and officials at the Department of Correctional Services have launched an investigation into the death of a female ward at the Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston.

The death has been confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services.

The female ward of the state is suspected to have committed suicide while in custody at the penal institution.

Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.

The Department said she was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital just after 7 o’clock last night.

However, it has provided no information on the circumstances surrounding her death.
