There are more calls this afternoon for Jamaicans to move past the debate on when an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be finalised and instead focus on getting their own affairs in order.

Former President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Michael Ammar Junior says he is confident that an agreement will be signed in due time.

He says he’s satisfied with the information given by the government and the Bank of Jamaica Governor Bryan Wynter regarding negotiations with the IMF.

He believes instead of focusing on when an agreement will be in place, members of the public and businesses must put plans in place to ensure their survival.

However, he said the Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller must take steps to restore calm and assure citizens that the government is in control.

Past President of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association Omar Azan says whether a deal with the IMF is in place or not people will have to continue with their lives.

On Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer of the GraceKennedy Group, Don Wehby urged his private sector colleagues to stop waiting on an IMF deal and start investing in an effort to avert any future crises.
