Local government minister, Noel Arscott, is condemning this morning’s killing of a security guard stationed at the Riverton Disposal site in St. Andrew.

Arscott has described the killing of Valentine Reid as senseless.

Arscott says it’s barbaric and cruel that a person would kill a human being without being provoked.

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has offered condolences to the family and colleagues of Mr. Reid, who was employed to Quest Security Services.

The agency says information gathered revealed that a man was seen removing fuel from equipment at the disposal site and was apprehended.

One of the security guards reportedly left the scene to alert the Jamaica Defense Force soldiers stationed near to the site and to call the Police.

The NSWMA says Mr. Reid was later ambushed and shot.

He reportedly died on the spot.
