Officials from the Transport and Works Ministry are to tour sections of Portland today, following another round of battering by heavy rains over the past two days.

The state minister in the transport and works ministry, Richard Azan will lead the touring party, which will also comprise West Portland MP Daryl Vaz and personnel from the National Works Agency.

Vaz said the recent rains have resulted in further displacements in several communities.

According to Vaz, the majority of the damage has been to infrastructure with homes being swept away, retaining walls crumbled and roads undermined.

He said there has also been severe flooding and landslides in sections of West Portland.

The West Portland MP said residents fear that there could be further damage.
