2012-11-27 13:24:25 | with audio | (0 Comments)

The state minister in the transport and works ministry, Richard Azan says he is trying to hastily fill the part of the Aguatavale Road in Portland in order to avoid any major catastrophe.

Azan is currently touring sections of Portland with officials from the Ministry, West Portland Member of Parliament, Daryl Vaz and personnel from the National Works Agency to assess the damage caused by recent rains.

He said having visited Aguatavale, it is urgent that that they get shingles to fill the road.

He said this will avert any major accident from occurring; explaining that last night there was a minor accident along the collapsed road.

Azan says he is also wants traffic signs erected along the road to aid motorists.

He says it is too early in his tour to say the cost of the damage to the area.

Several communities in West Portland including Windsor, Chepstowe, White River, and Swift River experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall over the last two days.

In the meantime, the National Works Agency says it is working to reopen several roadways which were blocked during the heavy rains in Portland.

NWA Communications Manager, Stephen Shaw, said the Bybrook Community Road which is one of the roads that have been blocked presents a major challenge.

He said the roadway was blocked as a result of a landslide.
