Update: Police question driver in gas truck accident

The police have taken into custody for questioning, the driver of a gas truck that killed a woman along the Steerfield main road in St Ann his morning.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old cook, Jennifer Forbes of Steerfield, in the parish.

Police reports are that at around 9.45 a.m., Forbes was walking along the roadway when the tanker section of a cooking gas truck traveling towards Golden Grove dislodged and fell on her.

An eyewitness told our news centre that the driver was speeding around a corner when the back of the truck dislodged from the front and hit the woman, who was walking along the roadside.

The eyewitness said the woman was pinned under the tanker and dragged several feet.

Personnel from the St Ann fire department later arrived at the scene as investigations got underway.

In an eerie coincidence, a resident told reporters that the woman’s former common law husband died around three years ago, when a truck hit him from his bicycle as he rode along the same roadway in the district.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
