NewsSubmission on children in lock-ups still being drafted – Hanna2012-11-28 08:39:09 | (0 Comments) ![]() Youth Minister, Lisa Hanna -file photo It appears that there has been little progress on a Cabinet submission dealing with the issue of children in police lock-ups. On August 31, the Youth Ministry issued a statement indicating that the submission was in its final stage. However yesterday, the Youth Minister, Lisa Hanna said the submission is still being drafted. Hanna is facing criticism about the monitoring and management of children in conflict with the law. Last week, advocacy group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) demanded answers from Hanna and the Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting. The JFJ feels they must be held accountable for the reported suicide of Vanessa Wint, a female teenager who was being housed in an adult correctional facility. The JFJ and another lobby group, Help JA Children are insisting that the practice of holding juveniles in adult facility is in contravention of the Child Care and Protection Act.
