NewsNPTA condemns attack on St Mary teacher2012-11-29 13:04:40 | (0 Comments)
The National Parent Teachers Association (NPTA) is condemning the assault of a St Mary basic school teacher, describing it as an attack on the education system.
Jacqueline Samuels remains in a comatose state at the Kingston Public Hospital, after she was hit unconscious on the head on Tuesday with a block by the father of a five-year-old boy. NPTA’s president, Everton Hannan said he is deeply concerned about the incident but he believes it’s a manifestation of a wider societal problem. Hannan said his association will be seeking to have discussions with the PTA of the St Mary basic school but the law must take its course. The parent who allegedly assaulted the teacher has since been charged, having turned himself over to the police. This is the second incident in recent times where a teacher has been assaulted by a parent. In October, a Dunrobin Primary School Teacher was attacked in front of her students by two men.
