Education Minister Ronald Thwaites says the board at the Kensington Primary School in St. Catherine is taking steps to ensure that the practice of flogging students does not continue.

Thwaites had instructed that an investigation be done into an incident at the institution in which a student was reportedly beaten.

He said he has received the report and is satisfied that the school’s board will address the situation.

The incident has triggered fresh concerns about the issue of corporal punishment in schools.

The education minister has said he supports the policy direction by the former education minister Andrew Holness that corporal punishment should be banned.
