The Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) says it is perturbed to learn that Jamaica could be abandoning the LNG deal with Trinidad.

The JMA says it has been among the groups which have been pushing for Jamaica to secure a supply of natural gas which will help in reducing energy cost.

The supply of LNG from Trinidad was a key strategy in the provision of a cheaper source of energy from the Jamaica Public Service.

Responding to questions in Parliament on Tuesday, Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell suggested that Jamaica could give up on getting Trinidad to honour a 2004 MOU to supply Jamaica with LNG.

JMA President Brian Pengelley says this is unwelcome news.
