NewsDPP issues warning2012-12-03 13:13:28
| ![]() Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn -file photo The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Paula Llewellyn has issued a stern warning to members of the public that it is a criminal offence to change a statement already provided in any matter before the court. The warning comes days after a woman was taken to the DPP’s office by two men, who were reportedly trying to get her to change a statement in the murder case of her daughter. The DPP is urging persons who are being induced to change statements to be courageous and report the matter to the police. She said those who are caught in any effort to amend witness statements could be charged for attempting to pervert the course of justice. The two men who allegedly brought the woman to the DPP’s office are now in custody. The DPP said the woman, who is now in protective custody, had given evidence which led to the conviction of one of the accused in the murder case. The other accused is facing a re-trial. Meanwhile, Head of the Major Investigation Taskforce, Superintendent Michael Phipps, said no charges have been filed as the police are continuing investigations to determine if the men conspired with others.
