Flash flood watch issued for five parishes

2012-12-03 18:16:36 | (0 Comments)

The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Andrew, St Mary, Portland, St Thomas and St Ann effective until 5 o’clock tomorrow morning.

A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures.

Residents are also urged to keep listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

The Met Service says unstable conditions in the upper levels of the atmosphere are producing showers which are heavy at times, over eastern and some central parishes.

According to the Met Service, winds from the northeast are also helping to generate the unstable weather over these areas.

The forecast is for periods of showers to continue to affect these parishes throughout tonight and tomorrow.

Improvement is expected by Wednesday as the general flow weakens.
