Court told police still defying order in Coudray-Greaves murder case

The defence in the case of murdered Trinidadian teacher Michelle Coudray-Greaves returned to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today, complaining that the police have continued to question the prime suspect in the absence of his lawyer.

Stacy-Ann Young, the attorney for Ivan Taylor, 45-year-old taxi operator Ivan Taylor of Whithorn district in Westmoreland, told Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small that despite her order on November 13, the defendant is still being improperly interrogated by the police.

The court was told that a detective inspector has admitted to asking Taylor questions concerning his antecedents, and had declared his "right" to question the accused at any time.

A displeased Wong-Small threatened to speak directly to the Commissioner of Police on the matter, if she should receive any further report of such improper questioning.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has revealed that the telephone records and DNA report in the case will soon be added to its case file.

The dental records for the victim are also still outstanding.

Taylor was then remanded and the case set for mention on December 11.

Michelle Coudray-Greaves went missing on June 1, two days after returning to Jamaica from vacation in Trinidad.

Her burnt remains were found in a cane-field close to Montego Bay on June 11.
