Slight improvement in police corruption

Two days before the celebration of World anti-Corruption Day, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Anti Corruption Branch is reporting that it is making strides in decreasing acts of corruption in some areas in society.

Speaking at a press conference today at the Police Officer’s Club in St Andrew, head of the Anti Corruption Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Selvin Hay, said while there has been improvement, there are still some tough areas that the JCF will have to redouble its effort in order to control.

He said the JCF is seeing some changes in terms of how the membership is reacting to the efforts of the anti corruption strategy.

He said there have also been fewer incidents of bribery on the streets.

Figures show that since the start of the year, 101 persons have been arrested by the Anti Corruption Branch, 54 of who are members of the force.

Of the police personnel arrested one is a gazetted officer, 4 sergeants, 14 corporals 23 constables, 4 members from the ISCF and 8 district constables.

ACP Hay pledged that the Anti Corruption Branch will continue to carry out its mandate to rid the country of corruption.
