JEA, Jamaica Customs address exporters' concerns
2012-12-08 08:04:50 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA) and Jamaica Customs have agreed to a number of initiatives to address concerns raised by exporters.
Last month exporters complained that the detention of their containers by customs is causing their shipments to be delayed resulting in spoilage and loss of potential earnings.
The parties say following talks this week the Customs Department is to roll out the electronic portal for export procedures and to improve coordination with key agencies.
There’s also to be a meeting with exporters to review the charges for stripping export containers detained by the Contraband Enforcement Team.
The Customs Department and the JEA have also agreed to more consistent information sharing on new technologies or guidelines for shipping and the handling of exports.
