False information on applications delays Hurricane Sandy relief

State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Luther Buchanan says scores of persons in St Thomas, Portland and St Mary have been providing false information in order to become eligible for money earmarked for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Persons in all three parishes whose homes were badly damaged during the hurricane are eligible to receive between $30,000 and $60,000 and Buchanan says more than 5,000 cheques have already been paid.

Speaking at the weekly post Cabinet press briefing on Thursday, Buchanan said the discovery of false information on several applications has delayed the process.
