Improve road network, stricter enviro policies to improve tourism - USAmbassador
2012-12-09 18:12:08 | (0 Comments)
US Ambassador to Jamaica Pamela Bridgewater says Jamaica could improve tourism - the country's number one foreign exchange earner - by implementing stricter environmental policies and improving the road network.
Ambassador Bridgewater explains that the island should implement policies similar to the Turks and Caicos Islands to regulate fishing and pollution to protect the island’s coral reefs.
She was speaking at the Tourism Service Excellence Awards at the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa Resort in Montego Bay on Saturday. This week is also being observed as Tourism Awareness Week.
She adds that as the country seeks to diversify the sector, it should also develop inland areas for tourism. However, she said the success of terrestrial forms of tourism was dependent on a reliable road network.
