Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies is alerting commuters that they will be pay more for bus fares by early next year.

The increase was requested by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and is to be considered by the Cabinet.

However, Davies and officials of the state-owned company have declined to discuss the level of increase being sought.

Seeking to justify the increase, the transport minister said the maximum inflow to the JUTC at the current fare levels is not sufficient to allow the company to provide commuters with good quality service.

He also said the JUTC has done enough to demonstrate that it is capable of providing the kind of service that commuters deserve.
