NewsLabour ministry to tour eastern parishes2012-12-18 09:00:57 | (0 Comments)
Labour and Social Security Minister Derrick Kellier is to lead a tour of eastern parishes today, to review work being carried out by beneficiaries of Hurricane Sandy relief.
Kellier said the visit is being used to monitor the progress of rehabilitation efforts, as well as to ensure that relief funds are being used properly. He said the ministry will also be carrying out re-assessments. The Government has provided some $233 million to thousands of persons in Portland, St Mary and St. Thomas who had damage to their homes as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The category one hurricane hit the country in October. And news emerged recently that people, who do not qualify for Hurricane Sandy relief vouchers have been collecting cheques. It was also reported that some persons have received more than one cheque for the same property. These unscrupulous activities have reportedly denied some 12,000 hurricane victims of benefits.
