NewsHuman rights activist commends gov't for its 'openness' on justice reform2012-12-23 12:19:32 | (0 Comments) ![]() Rights activist Yvonne McCalla Sobers Human rights advocate, Yvonne McCalla Sobers, is commending the state for what she describes as its openness to dialogue on justice reform, but she argues that it must convince the public that it will implement change. According to McCalla Sobers, although justice minister Mark Golding and National Security Minister Peter Bunting have been accessible and demonstrate an understanding of the issues, they have not convinced Jamaicans that justice is being served. She says many people continue to have their rights abused under the system. The rights activist says there are still gaping weaknesses in the investigative capacity of the authorities, which continue to lead to arrests before investigations are complete.
