Two dead, seven injured in separate crashes in Kingston

Two people died and seven others were left injured as a result of motor vehicle crashes last night in the Corporate Area.

In the first crash the Constabulary Communication Network reports that one man was killed and another injured on the Temple Hall main road, St Andrew last night.

The dead man was identified as Reynaldo Pike, 25, a truck driver of Cockburn Gardens, Kingston 11.

Pike was pronounced dead at hospital after he was run over by an oncoming motor car when he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and fell. The pillion passenger also sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.

The driver of the motor car was unhurt. He has, however, been warned by the police for prosecution pending the outcome of investigations.

In the second incident, one man was killed and six others were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Marcus Garvey Drive and Industrial Terrace in Kingston.

The dead man is 55-year-old Sylvester Staple of Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston 13, while a woman and five children between the ages of two and 15 years old sustained injuries in the incident.

The Tivoli Gardens police said Staple was driving a Nissan AD motor car along the roadway about 8:10 p.m. when it collided with a Toyota Carina motor car. Staple, along with his six passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, where Staple was pronounced dead. The other six remain in hospital.
