Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez' condition has taken a turn for the worse, as reports surface of new cancer-related complications in Cuba.

Chavez, who has now undergone four surgeries to combat the deadly disease in the last year, is battling for his life. His Vice President, Nicholas Maduro has reportedly stated that his condition is "delicate".

Chavez, was expected to be sworn in officially as President of the oil rich nation, on January 10, and would serve a six-year term, however, that seems iffy at this time.

In a televised address from Havana, Cuba Sunday, Maduro, was quoted by media houses such as CNN and BBC as saying that Chavez suffered new complications due to respiratory infection. The Venezuelan President's last operation was December 10.

Before his operation, Chavez designated Maduro his successor and appealed to the people of Venezuela to elect him if they had to return to the polls.
