Finsac'd entrepreneurs saddened by Mandeville couple suicide

The Association of Finsac’d Entrepreneurs says it’s saddened at the deaths of the elderly Mandeville couple who committed suicide on Monday.

The bodies of Morris and Grace Richards were found hanging from a staircase at their home at Glenwood Close off deCarteret Road.

In a suicide note, the couple blamed the FINSAC debacle for driving them to take their lives.

Association president Yola Gray Baker said it is devastating that yet another FINSAC debtor has committed suicide.

Grey Baker said many debtors continue to suffer, as they are still paying back huge loans and are at the same time losing their homes and businesses.

She laments that the deaths of the Richards should act as a sign to the Portia Simpson Miller-led Administration of the importance of completing the FINSAC report and making it public.

Gray-Baker emphasized that those who have caused dozens of Jamaicans to suffer as a result of the financial crash in the 1990’s should be held accountable.

The FINSAC enquiry completed its sittings in November 2011 but a final report is yet to be published.
