Reputed gang leader Christopher ‘Dog Paw’ Linton has been freed of a gun charge.

In January 2011, Linton was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition following the alleged discovery of a gun in a house where he was hiding.

It was reported that he had invaded a house shared by two female university students in a bid to avoid a police-military dragnet.

The women did not testify at the trial in the Gun Court.

However, Linton’s lawyer Dianne Jobson tendered in evidence, a question and answer document with the responses of the two women to the police in which they had said that no gun was found in the house.

In his defence, Linton also denied the allegation of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Supreme Court Judge Marjorie Cole-Smith presided at the trial.

In handing down her ruling this afternoon, Justice Cole-Smith said she did not convict on notoriety, but on the evidence.

She also said there was reasonable doubt on the evidence presented.

'Dog Paw' will however remain in jail, because he has other charges pending in the courts.
