A special constable accused of bribing a Canadian man for a traffic offence was granted bail, when he appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's court yesterday.
Special Constable Altimont Aird of the Linstead police station was granted bail in the sum of $200,000. He was charged under the Corruption Prevention Act, after he allegedly solicited money from a Canadian tourist he had stopped for a traffic violation. A report was made by the Canadian to the Anti-Corruption Branch and an investigation launched. Aird was later taken into custody.
