NewsJCC calls for decisive government action2013-01-11 12:51:31 | (0 Comments)
The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) says the country’s future will be fatally compromised if firm and decisive action is not taken by the government at this time.
JCC President, Francis Kennedy, said the nation has run out of the familiar options available to governments over much of the nation’s history. He said past shortsightedness has resulted in an accumulation of structural problems in the economy and squandered opportunities. Kennedy said now that the country has very few options, this may very well be Jamaica’s last and best hope to change that dynamic. He said the country must now, finally, put its energies into effecting an agenda of growth and introducing efficiency in the public sector. Meanwhile, Kennedy said the lesson to be learnt from the current situation with the International Monetary Fund is that the multilateral community sees little reason to provide support, if it sees little evidence Jamaica is prepared to take the hard but necessary decisions. The JCC head said one of the critical deliverables the country should expect from this weekend’s Cabinet retreat is clear and unambiguous evidence that the government has realised it cannot be business as usual.
