US Coast Guard turns back 160 Haitians

2013-01-12 18:53:27 | (0 Comments)

The United States Coast Guard has announced that it repatriated some 160 Haitians who were intercepted at sea last week.

The US Coast Guard says the Haitians were returned to their country on Thursday, less than a week after they were pulled from the water off the coast of The Bahamas.

The Haitians were intercepted aboard what the Coast Guards described as a perilously over-packed wooden sail boat.

In a statement yesterday, the US Coast Guard said the would-be migrants were given food and water and basic medical care before their repatriated to Cap Haitian, on the northern coast of Haiti.
