Police post set up at May Pen Hospital

A police post has been set up at the May Pen Hospital following the shooting death of a male patient at the facility last night.

The police said the post will operate on a 24-hour basis.

They further said it is also making representation for a perimeter wall to be built around the hospital to prevent easy and unfettered access to the compound.

The police said they will be partnering with the private security employed to the hospital to improve security at the facility.

Meanwhile, the Police High Command said the National Intelligence Bureau has been tasked to do a risk assessment on every patient admitted to all public hospitals with gunshot wounds.

They said this will facilitate briefings between the local police and private security firms employed by the hospital, which so that preemptive measures can be taken if necessary and this will become a standard operating procedure.

The high command said the police also will be working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to review security at all public hospitals, as part of efforts to ensure the safety of patients, members of staff and all who use the facilities.

Deputy Commissioner Glemore Hinds has sought to assurance that the attack at the May Pen Hospital will be thoroughly investigated and is appealing to members of the public with information to contact the Police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest Police Station.
