Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has indicated that the Government will be increasing its provisions to the Students' Loan Bureau (SLB) in the new financial year.

Thwaites said this is being done to ensure that more funding is made available for persons who are seeking to pursue tertiary education.

He reiterated that the government is committed to giving more Jamaicans access to higher education, as it is in keeping with the country’s national development goals.

The education minister again stated that the government plans to revisit the way tertiary education is funded with the view of channeling resources into areas which are aligned to national priorities.

He was speaking at a recent graduation ceremony for 67 teachers from the Sam Sharpe Teachers’ and Mico University colleges, who had successfully completed the Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Master of Science in Reading and Language Arts, through the Central Connecticut State University in the United States.
