The Government is to hold a series of islandwide public consultations to sensitise the public about its plans for the proposed Logistics Hub initiative.

Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Anthony Hylton says the consultations will begin this week with representatives of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce.

Hylton made the announcement as he addressed the opening of a Logistics Hub Retreat in Kingston yesterday.

The development of the trans-shipment and logistics hub is being undertaken to help position Jamaica to take advantage of the expected increase in maritime activities that should result from the expansion of the Panama Canal by 2015.

The project will have six separate but complementary elements that will include the dredging of the Kingston Harbour.
