Constable jailed for stealing mobile phone

A policeman who allegedly stole a mobile phone that was being used as evidence in a court case has been jailed.

He has been identified as 24-year-old constable, Jameel Shettleworth, who is attached to the Ramble police station in Hanover. He was arrested by members of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and charged with one count of larceny.

The Constabulary Communication Network reports that Constable Shettleworth was on duty when it is alleged that he went into the exhibits store and stole an LG mobile phone that was entrusted to him for safe keeping. It was to be used as an exhibit in a matter before the courts.

During the daily inventory, it was discovered that the mobile phone was missing. Subsequent checks were made and the cell phone was found in his barrack room.

He is scheduled to appear before the Lucea Resident Magistrate's Court on January 21.
