Barbara Gayle, Justice Coordinator
The man accused of the 2002 murder of psychic, Safa Asuntuwa, has been freed after 11 years behind bars. The jury retired for two hours today before declaring that Christopher Dixon was not guilty. The matter was being tried in the Home Circuit Court. Dixon was represented by attorneys-at-law Tom and Christian Tavares-Finson. He was convicted of the murder in 2003 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Dixon then filed an appeal and the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial based on comments made by the judge during the trial. Safa was found dead in a gully with several stab wounds in Mount Joy, St. Andrew in 2002.
