2013-01-25 19:40:33 | (0 Comments)

The police have confirmed that a man is now in custody in relation to the alleged hacking of the databases of telecommunications company Digicel.

It's reported that he gained access to call data and text messaging information and was demanding money from the company.

The matter is being investigated by the Organised Crime Investigation Division.

Our source says the detainee was involved in a another case involving the hacking of Digicel's system.

Digicel has released a statement saying it is unable to speak in detail on the matter at this time.

"Today there has been an important development in an ongoing investigation, in conjunction with the police, as a suspect has now been arrested," a company spokesperson said.

"Whilst we are pleased with this development, unfortunately we cannot comment further due to legal constraints that could compromise the ongoing police investigations."
