No timeline in sight for Tivoli report

It appears that the interim report by the Public Defender on security operations in West Kingston in May 2010 will not be completed any time soon.

In a statement issued Tuesday morning, the Houses of Parliament said following a meeting between the Parliamentary Commission, headed by House Speaker Michael Peart and Public Defender Earl Witter, the information provided by the public defender on the status of the report suggests that the completion date for the report could not be determined.

The Parliamentary Commission met with Witter on January 22 after he missed yet another deadline for tabling in Parliament.



"The Commission has decided to provide the Office of the Public Defender with additional resources to assist with the speedy completion of the report," a spokesperson said in the statement.

"A team from the Houses of Parliament headed by the Clerk to the Houses will be closely monitoring the progress to ensure that the report is completed in the shortest possible time," the House of Parliament said.

Parliament also said that the Commission has decided that issues relating to the organisation of the Office of the Public Defender will be thoroughly investigated as soon as the report is completed.
