Transport Authority warns against overcharging

2013-01-30 11:12:14 | (0 Comments)

The Transport Authority is warning that it will prosecute public passenger vehicle operators who are overcharging commuters.

The Authority said it has been receiving complaints that operators, particularly in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region, are insisting that commuters pay more than the approved fares.

Its noted that the current fare per stage in the region is $80.

The authority said its route inspectors will be closely monitoring the situation and those operators found to be deceiving passengers will be prosecuted under the Road Traffic Regulations.

Meanwhile, the Transport Authority is urging commuters to report incidents of overcharging through its toll- free line at 1-888-991-5687  and provide the licences plate numbers and the routes for the vehicles.
