The US government is seeking to assure that the closure of its Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Jamaica does not affect the embassy’s presence in Jamaica in any way.

There have been concerns ever since the US Embassy announced the office would be closed on March 1, with its services being transferred to the Dominican Republic.

In another release yesterday, the US Embassy in Kingston sought to make it clear that it was not the entire embassy which was being closed but the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

The USCIS is a specialised government agency that oversees matters of lawful immigration to the United States.

The Embassy says routine consular services for tourist, student, official and immigrant visa applications and American Citizen Services will continue to be offered by the consular section.
