St. Catherine man freed of gun charge

2013-01-31 09:30:47 | (0 Comments)

A St Catherine man was freed of charges in the Gun Court yesterday, after the complainant testified that he had not signed the witness statement presented by the police.

Fitzroy Mathias of Ellerslie Pen in Spanish Town, St Catherine was freed after the complainant said he was not shot by the accused.

He told the court that it was the investigator who told him what to say and that it was the cop who signed the statement.

The complainant also said he has made a report to the Independent Commission of Investigations about the matter.

Mathias, who was defended by attorney-at-law Sean Kinghorn was then told he did not have a case to answer.

The Crown had led evidence that on August 6, 2012, the complainant reported that he was accused of stealing a chain from a don in Tawes Pen.

It was alleged that he was held and beaten and Mathias ordered that he was to be shot.
