Brazil: Cops sentenced for judge's murder

(AP) — A Brazilian court has sentenced three Rio de Janeiro state officers to more than 20 years in prison for participating in the shooting death of a judge.
Officer Jefferson Miranda was sentenced yesterday to 26 years for murder and racketeering in the August 2011 slaying of Judge Patricia Acioli.
Jovanis Falcao was handed a 25 ˝ year sentence for the same charges and Junior Cezar de Medeiros was given a 22 ˝-year sentence.
Another officer sentenced in the case late last year testified that he and 10 other officers killed Acioli because she had ordered the arrest of six policemen on charges they killed an 18-year-old.
Acioli was investigating Rio de Janeiro's criminal militias, which are largely composed of off-duty police.
